Workshop with Jesús Cisneros

The result from the fabulous workshop with Jesús Cisneros.

My daughter, Loretta, and I had the chance to travel spontaneously to Italy (we had some money left and some free days). I saw on Instagram that Jesús Cisneros was offering a workshop at the International School of Illustration at the Štěpán Zavřel Foundation in Sarmede!

It was dream come true!

We created paper cuts by folding black paper down the middle, than we cut out suns, birds, reptiles, fruit, masks and a lot more without looking at references.

What a great experiment, we had a lot of fun!

At the end of the day Jesús hung all the paper cuts together. Can you imagine what it looked like? Amazing!!!!

The next day we had a great time creating pictures with words, choosing from words we collected together in the Pizzeria….

The rest of the week was filled with working on a little story by choosing three pictures from another project.

The assignment was to paint with black ink on a big piece of fabric. Each of us chose one of the paper cuts that we liked and then we met outside in the field to create a story with three pictures.

Jesús showed us a wonderful technique of how to work with oil. If you are interested, you can learn about it in his Domestika workshop.

The line work is kind of a monotype with oil, you can paint over it easily.

This was the story I created. I’m sorry it’s in Italian…

And this is from my daughter, Loretta.

We learned so much in the week and I wish I had the time to create more art like this, but right now I have to finish a wonderful book. I’ll keep it in my mind for personal projects.

I was always a bit scared before when choosing oil. But now it’s at the top of my favorite art materials!

Thank you so much for this week and I hope I can take another course next year at this wonderful place!

And thank you to Štěpán Zavřel for creating such a wonderful place! A place for dreaming.
